| During the recent refugee “crisis” in Europe, a feminisation of refugee flows has been noted with increasing numbers of women and children amongst those arriving by boat on the shores of Europe, and many more women choose to make the journey alone, unaccompanied by a husband, father or brother. Whilst the dominant image of a refugee has been that of a young man, women also have specific reasons to flee, and experience specific forms of persecution. What are the inequalities and differences during the flight between men and women? | |
