| This book is the biography of Ruth Fuller Sasaki who played a major part in bringing buddhism to the west. Ruth Fuller Sasaki was born in Chicago at the turn of the twentieth century. In 1930 on a trip to Japan she was introduced to D.T. Suzuki. Later she was a pupil of the zen master Nanshinken in Kyoto. Back in the USA she was a senior student of Sokei-an Sasaki whom she married. She helped him to build the First Zen Institute in New York City. After his death it became her mission to maintain this institute. She also established the First Zen Institute of America in Japan. | |
