Beschreibung:
Sigmund Freud's concept of female psychosexuality and femininity changed over the course of his creative period in line with his idea of "nexus of cure and research": the central points of these changes are briefly outlined. Further, the contributions to the psychoanalysis of the female sexual function and feminity published by women analysts, somewhat diverging from those of S. Freud, are summarized (Ruth Mack-Brunswick, Karen Horney). With the aid of the reflections on this subject by French psychoanalysts (janine Chasseguet-Smirgel, Marie Torok), the controversial concept of penis envy is freed from the oversimplification it repeatedly experiences in feminist literature. This contribution emphasizes the fact that female psychosexuality is co-determined by social conditions, biological circumstances (anatomical-physiological and genetic factors) as well as intrapsychical structures modified by both of these areas.
