The late 1980s and early 1990s saw a growth in Spain of a small corpus of woman-authored erotic fiction. Critical response to this literature has varied, with some seeing it as a valuable contribution in post-Franco Spain to the broader political projects of europeanization and secularization, and others regretting its inability to find a genuine non-patriarchal voice with which to celebrate women's sexuality. It is possible, however, to read these works as classic examples of how the obstacles to women writing might be overcome. This article examines two textual strategies, employed, metaphor and irony, in short storis by Ana Rossetti and Mercedes Abad respectively, and concludes with the suggestion that this corpus represents the process of overcoming obstacles rather than the end product of having done so | |
