Beschreibung:
This paper makes four key contributions to ongoing debates about the meaning of home and feminist research methods. First it reviews the debate concerning women and the meaning of home in the light of recently completed doctoral research which refutes Saunders' (1990a) assertions that the meaning of home is gender neutral. It is concluded that the meaning of home for women is highly ambivalent and complex. Second it introduces the concept of episodic ethnographies as a way of making sense of home thnomethodologically. Third, it presents selected results from a series of in-depth interviews undertaken in St. George, east Bristol to illustrate how the meaning of home is constructed in relation to climactic events in people's life histories. Finally, it suggests new directions for research that places emotions at the heart of a project to challenge the malestream tendencies of current work in psychology and sociology.
