| This multi-authored article considers the first two years of the project entitled Feminism and Enlightenment 1650-1850: A Comparative History. The project has brought together over a hundred scholars (historians, literary critics and philosophers) under the direction of Barbara Taylor with the help of research fellow Sarah Knott. Several of these scholars reflect here on how colloquia and seminars have explored the contribution of the Enlightenment to early feminism. From different national and disciplinary perspectives, they focus on the comparative aims of the project, on meanings of "Enlightenment" and the changing history of gender and feminism, and on the rewards and pitfalls of the project's modes of intellectual enquiry and sociability. | |
